What your package will include

Restoring a former name has its own paperwork path — and it depends on what your divorce decree says. We'll cover both routes.

The right route for your decree

If name restoration is already in your divorce decree, we prepare the documents to use it. If it isn't, we prepare the petition to get a separate order.

Step-by-step filing guide

Where to go, what to bring, what it costs, and in what order — including how to get certified copies of your decree when agencies ask for them.

The everything-else checklist

Social Security, driver's license, passport, banks, employer, insurance — a personalized list so your old married name doesn't linger anywhere.

How it will work — same simple process, four steps

Requirements differ everywhere. Your questionnaire is built for your state's rules from the first question.

Questions people ask about divorce name changes

How much will it cost?

$20, flat — the same as every NowIntroducing package. That covers your complete state-specific documents, the filing guide, and the update checklist. Court filing fees, where they apply, are paid separately to your court.

My divorce decree already restored my name. Do I still need this?

If restoration language is in your decree, you don't need a new court order — but you still have a paperwork trail: certified copies, Social Security, DMV, and every other agency in the right order. That's exactly what your package handles.

My decree doesn't mention my name. Am I stuck?

No. Most states let you either reopen the case to amend the decree or file a standalone name change petition. Your questionnaire will route you to the right one for your state and prepare those documents.

Can I change my children's names too?

Changing a child's name is a separate legal process with its own requirements — often including consent from or notice to the other parent. It's not part of this package, and for that we'd suggest talking with a family law attorney.

When will my state be available?
